Ever since Tommy could remember, he wanted to be a rock star. With images of
Kiss on his television and visions of sold out arenas in his eyes, he dared to dream.
One day Tommy gets his chance. A tour to New York City. One chance to make all
of his dreams come true. Come along for the ride as Tommy leaves his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky and embarks on the adventure
of a lifetime. He closes his eyes and steps into the abyss armed only with a guitar and a dream that will not die.
THE BAND is a funny and touching
trip through the topsy turvy world of rock and roll. So pack some clean underwear, get in the van and hang on tight!
Written and Performed by Jordan Stewart
***1/2
In a one-man adaptation of Tommy Womack's Cheese Chronicles, which followed the misadventures of a blue-collar Kentucky
rock band, University of Winnipeg drama alumnus Jordan Stewart -- now based in Toronto -- compresses a series of funny but
touching rock 'n' roll anecdotes into a tight little 45-minute monologue. Adopting Tommy's southern-fried guitar-player persona,
Stewart tells the tale of his country-punk quartet Government Cheese, which rises from ignominious beginnings at campus clubs
and meets its ignominious end at a New York music-industry showcase.
Must-see fringe for anyone who's ever played in a
rock band.
